How do I choose the right program for my child?

It depends on what your player’s goals are; for example, participation/fun or performance/high level competition. Also consider what level player your child is and their personal learning preferences.

We cater for everyone and their needs. Including Hot Shots, Private coaching, Group & Squad training and Cardio Tennis.

How often should my child be taking lessons?

Rule of thumb is to play three times per week or more to maintain or improve tennis skills. However, this does not necessarily mean three tennis lessons. It could be one or two group lessons combined with squad or private lesson or one family trip to the local tennis court!

What I should bring for tennis lesson?

Hat, Water Bottle, Sunscreen, Non-marking soled shoes, Required medication/s, Racquet (the centre can provide a racquet for trials)

How can I tell that my child is improving?

Modern instruction philosophy is to get your child rallying and playing as soon as possible, as opposed to the olden days when perfecting technique was the top priority. Research now tells us if too much time is spent acquiring a pretty swing, players find this boring and leave the sport before they discover the fun of playing. ‘Rally’ is the ability to hit a ball back and forth with another player. By playing, we mean earning points and determining a beginning and ending point to the activity (winning/losing). We also expect them to understand the basics of tennis such as scoring and tennis etiquette.

Tennis is hard. It requires complex physical skills like throwing, catching, tracking, hitting, quick reflexes, and good decision-making. It may be a while before players can perform what you think of as traditional tennis play. The key is consistency. Practice with a purpose, and it will pay off.

Is there a joining fee?

No there is not a joining fee but students are encouraged to join the club to increase junior competition numbers and help the club thrive.

Parent/Guardian Involvement

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to watch. However, we do ask that they do not enter the court unless requested by the coach (excluding private lesson where parent wants to pick up balls for daughter/son)

LKTA feels that it is extremely important that only positive reinforcement is used by players and spectators.

Payment of fees

Methods of payment: Cash, Cheque or Internet Banking

Coaching term invoices will be emailed directly to you two weeks before the end of previous term.
Any unpaid fees by the end of school holidays will unable student re-enrol for the following coaching term.

Wet Weather and Heat Policy

We will do everything possible to run our programs as scheduled.

Should the courts be unusable due to wet weather the coach will declare a ‘wash out’ and will endeavour to notify students (parents) at the earliest convenience. Any Hot Shots or group lessons declared as a ‘wash out’ will be made up at an alternative date generally as “a double lesson”.

If it is raining during the lesson the lesson will be completed indoors if available.

When the temperature reaches 37 degrees and over at the Bruce Park Tennis Club, all coaching sessions will be suspended until the temperature drops. Please be aware the temperature will be taken at the venue and your safety is our primary concern.

What about public holidays?

We do not run tennis coaching on public holidays. If you are enrolled in a class that falls on a public holiday, you will not be charged for that lesson.

If you have to miss or cancel a lesson

Apart from lessons cancelled by LKTA, missed group lessons due to factors outside of our control do not warrant a make up lesson or reduced term fee (example: Dentist appointment, holidays and school camps). However if the reason for missed lesson is due to medical factors and a medical certificate is provided we will make arrangements for the student to be placed in another lesson.

Private lessons require 24 hours notice or $25 fee will be payable.

Cardio Tennis require notice before midday or $10 fee will be payable.

Should the medical illness be long term a refund may be provided with a medical certificate.
